Life insurance can be confusing; we get it. Until a loved one passes away, you may not understand how it works or what to expect. At Lumico, we’re here to guide you and make life insurance simple. Our claims process is easy to understand, and our customers talk openly about how helpful our representatives are every step of the way.
In fact, one of our members said, “Lumico was the only company I called where I received a human being answering the phone. There were no robotic answering services, just a helpful human being that helped me and my family through this challenging period of loss. I'm glad my mother chose Lumico as a provider. They seem to be transparent and caring."
If you’re wondering what it might be like to submit a claim, we’ve outlined the steps here. After all, it’s nice to know what to expect before you experience the loss of a loved one.
Step 1: Your beneficiary calls us to let us know you’ve passed away.
First, we learn that you or a loved one has passed away. This kicks off your policy’s claims process on our end. Your beneficiary can let us know by giving one of our representatives a phone call or sending us a mailed letter.
At this point, our team will send a condolence packet to your beneficiary, or if you have more than one, your beneficiaries. This helpful packet is sent within seven to 10 business days and includes a claim statement to complete.
Step 2: Your beneficiary sends us information to process the claim.
To process your policy’s claim and release a death benefit to your beneficiary (or beneficiaries), we need to receive some paperwork first. For example, we need to receive:
Before deciding and paying the benefit, at Lumico we always consider:
With every claim we receive, it’s our job to do our due diligence. You can trust that we’ll do everything on our end to make sure your benefit is handled fairly and appropriately.
Step 3: If your claim is approved, your beneficiary will receive payment.
Next, your beneficiary will either indicate their optional payment and will complete the Direct Deposit form that is sent with the claim packet, or they will receive the payment via check. If the claim is approved and your beneficiary doesn’t receive a payment, they should call one of our representatives right away.
At Lumico, we believe transparency is the name of the game.
We hope this article helped you understand what to expect if a loved one passes away—or what your loved ones should expect after you’re gone. When you’re in the midst of a loss, you don’t want to be confused about life insurance matters. We’re here to prevent that from happening
Remember, if you have any questions about how your policy works, give one of our representatives a call. The more you know today, the better off you are in the future.
